Actually all people have some amount of bad breath because it is primarily caused by bacteria that live on the top of the tongue and produce the bad smells. Most of us cannot smell our own bad breath. Sometimes you can see this bacteria by looking on the top of your tongue for some white stuff. This must be removed in order to get rid of bad breath. Mints and gum just cover up the bad breath for a short time. Good oral hygiene is to brush and floss the teeth and then clean the tongue with a good tongue cleaner. I use OraBrush because it is both a brush and a scraper. Here is their website:

If it is an internal problem such as a stomach problem that is causing it then an internal deodorant would help. A table spoon of high strength liquid chlorophyll every morning is all you need. As well as deodorising food odors and other internal odors liquid chlorophyll also promotes a healthy digestive environment and will also boost your energy levels.
References :
Web search for "liquid chlorophyll" + "bad breath"

mints will help, or brushing your tongue, especially the back of it because that's where the odor comes from.

change your toothrbush every 3 months. I have the kind with a rubber/grid back for tongue cleanings. If you gag from cleaning the bath of your tongue, train yourself, start off not-so-far and gradually get farther.

Also, I got this new mouthwash that works REALLLYYY good. ACT total care (fresh mint flavored). it's cheap too.
References :
Fixing bad breath depends on what's causing it. In 80 to 90 percent of cases, it's due to something in the mouth. Most often, bad breath is the result of nothing more serious than a dirty mouth. Plaque, the nearly invisible film of bacteria that's constantly forming in your mouth, is often responsible. Another possible source of stink can be decaying food that's trapped between teeth.

Persistent bad breath may be due to a treatable dental problem, such as an undiagnosed cavity or periodontal (gum) disease. Sometimes a broken filling can trap food particles. If you visit the dentist and no such problem is found, however, you may want to investigate further and talk to your physician about other possible causes. Occasionally, ongoing bad breath is due to something in the respiratory tract (such as a sinus or lung infection) or gastrointestinal tract or to a systemic (body-wide) condition. Diabetes, for example, can give the breath an unpleasant chemical smell.

Some remedies:(some very obvious)
Keep your mouth clean.
Brush your tongue as well
Stay away from potent foods
References :
http://health.howstuffworks.com/home-remedies-for-bad-breath1.htm
