I have a cat with frightful halitosis. Any idea what could cause it or what to do about it ?
Went to the vet and he said it is quite common in domestic cats. The main rason is eating too much and not getting enough exercise. The food eaten and not used goes a bit yucky and causes bad breath.
His advice – less food, more exercise. As a side issue he said too many cats are kept indoors – the healthiest ones he knew of were farm cats. They chase mice, getting their adrenalin going, get plenty of exercise following the trend of the carniverous hunter, eat anything which appeals because they get to choose it, and do not put on weight except when growing.
Keeping cats in town with not many places to go is a bit unfair on the cat.
It could be an abscessed tooth or any number of things. Best to see a vet. Bad breath is not normal.

do cavities cause….?
halitosis
Absolutely cavities can cause bad breath. Cavities are decay and decay anywhere causes odor, most of it bad. Even a cracked filling with a cavitiy starting under it is enough to produce a foul odor. The cavity will continue to get worse until it is filled.
A lot of halitosis also comes from not brushing the tongue thoroughly, so be sure you are taking care of that at the same time.
People what`s the deal with me? please help!?
i am on a strict diet now, not that i like it, but i have to.
the thing is i eliminated MEAT, GLUTEN/LACTOSE and by products, EVERYTHING PREPARED ON THE FIRE like fried, boiled etc.
but WHY everytime i eat pretty much anything i get my breath stunk, skin pimpled and and stomac bloated as hell?
so i stick to only fruits, veggies, vitamin-mineral complex and special rice protein. those are the onle products that don`t cause above mentioned troubles.
when i see someone eating a burger i get so jelous! their skin is clean, they don`t have halitosis because of it, they don`t get bloated.
i`d give anything and AGREE TO BE SUPERFAT- if only i could eat whatever i want w/o gettin bad breath, bloating and bad skin.
i saw my dentist yesterday and he said my teeth and gums are OK.
i get this kinda troubles when i eat ANYTHING inc. BREAD, MEAT, MILK.
except for veggies and fruits and special vegan proteins.
Seems like he did see a DR/Dentist and doing all the right things, Gretchen
I dont think thats where the problem is
You know Shag, you should NEVER ask for something, like being fat! thats like askin for a curse!
Try brushing with plain ole baking soda and not only will it help your breath, but give you shiny pearly whites as well! Brush your tongue too…:+
