Hello,I believe I have had oral thrush for many years and
it has went undiagnosed. My inside cheeks has a whitish
streak on them and a film that looks like slime/jelly that
I can move with my tongue. If I remember correctly my cheeks
have always been completely pink with nothing white on them.
I believe this is the culprit of my chronic bad breath that
I have had for many,many years 24 hrs a day.I never questioned
this whitish film and did not believe it could be anything.
My tongue is also coated and this appeared around the
bad tonsillitis and never cleared up.I was treated with antibiotics
once for this infection.I had them removed in 1997.I also have
a not so clean taste/ bad taste that never left.Several internet
doctors say my description is definitely thrush and also
that this is the cause of my bad breath.Once treated, they say
the bad breath usually go away because it is a fungal infection.
Could this be correct? I've always taken care of my dental….
I thank the board for the responses. To
clarify the tonsillitis onset was when I
was 12 y.o. I don't understand why
my dentists and M.D. never caught
this.I do not have any other illness
or infections.Does anyone know if
this relating to the chronic bad breath
or know of any instances that thrush
has caused it? Thanks

Oral thrush is a form of yeast infection. It is treatable as well. However, it is recommended that you see a dentist not just an MD. There are certain antibiotics that will kill off all the infection so no return visits from it. If you can move the film, then keeping your mouth clean with a mild mouth wash will help clear it but takes longer than going to get an antibiotic as well as keeping your mouth washed.
I do mean a mild mouth wash as your mouth has natural germs that help your body and you dont want to kill them off completely thus leaving yourself open for more intense problems.
When my son had thrush, his doctor suggested keeping it clean with an antibiotic and plenty of water. It took a while to get it cleared up and was not in the least pretty, but once it was gone and he kept his mouth clensed properly, he had no problem.
Good luck…

why not go to the doctor and get it cleared up? It is common for babies to get oral thrush and there is medication for it.

Well adults who get oral thrush might be infected with a serious disease, so it is definitely something you want to get checked out. I know in some instances people who have AIDS get oral thrush.

I have also been plagued with this for many yrs and I just thought it was normal until recently. I am going to a doctor ASAP. I have had tons of tonsil problems and teeth problems you would think the docs i have seen would of picked up on the thrush but they havent. I think this all started many yrs ago when I had an abcessed tooth and was on many antibiotics and this stringy stuff appeared on my cheeks and a white coated tongue. Like i said i just thought it was nothing and i have never treated it. So i feel your pain.
