I have a 1 y/o golden retriever/border collie mix. She is a healthy weight, has clean teeth, a healthy diet, etc. She drinks a lot of water (more than normal, i think). Her breath isn't like normal stinky dog breath. It actually smells awful, like she has a chronic condition or something. She doesn't eat dog poop in the yard, and it doesn't smell like that either. It smells like human halitosis or something similar to that. What could be wrong with her???
She eats dry dog food and has plenty of exercise. She always has dental bones and toys to chew on also. There are no problems with her licking her rear either.

Dogs are dirty animals. They are always sticking nasty things in thier mouth. I don't believe they have the cleanist mouths. But, he may have some kind of digestive infection or something you should go to the vet and get it checked.

You really need to have a vet check this out. Do you feed dry or canned? Canned adds to the tarter on the teeth so it could just be that a cleaning is in order.

sounds like she needs some dental work, and infection can cause bad breath or maybe she just needs a good teeth cleaning.

She might just need her teeth scaled. Ask your vet about it.

Bad breath can be common and does increase as dogs age but that doesn’t mean it is NORMAL. Bad breath in a dog is a sign that there may be something wrong. It is a symptom that needs to be addressed. Bad breath can be caused by a number of factors:
    – Periodontal disease (bad teeth)
    – Gingivitis (infection of the gums)
    – Poor digestion
    – Stomach or intestinal problems
    – Kidney or liver disease
    – Poor diet

Next time you take the dog in for a checkup have them look at the dogs teeth and see if there is anything you can do about the breath. It might be the dogs teeth are full of tartar/plaque and they will need to be cleaned.
