How do you stop bad breath? (10 points)?
i chew gum all day and i don't know if this is bad for my teeth?
is there certain foods like garlic that make your breath smell?
Is there any thing i can do to stop it?
and is it mean to tell your friend that she has bad breath?
Thanks!
Bad breath has different and a lot of reasons, best way is to know the reason and either avoid or remove that cause, so if the reason is a cavity in your teeth, it should be filled, if it is gum problems, it should be treated, mouth washes cover the smell and do not remove it, it is just an assisting tool and not the basic one, regarding food stuff, yes some food stuff may give a smell but it i is related to the food stuff only as garlin and onion, but this disappears by time, smell due to dental problems should be treated, in rare cases some stomach troubles can cause bad smell for more info contact me as ahmadhashem41 at yahoo

Besides brushing your teeth, you should floss regularly and get a tongue cleaner. Itsy bits of food can get stuck in between your teeth and smell. Same with your tongue… white stuff on your tongue can easily be cleaned off with a tongue scraper.
And yes there are foods/drinks that cause bad breath like garlic, coffee, smoking.
Try using a mouth wash that doesn't have alcohol as it could make your breath worse in the long run. Try Crest Pro Health Alcohol Free Mouthwash.
Or a mouthwash that contains active chlorine dioxide. http://www.profresh.com/index.shtml?gclid=CKac7LzGkJoCFQkzawodARm9FA

My speciality (oral surgeon)
I heard that you actually get bad breath when your hungry. And of course when you eat smelly breath foods.
Maybe try eating more fruit and veg. Drink water too, this helps

You ask excellent questions. First, the major cause of bad breath is the tongue where bacteria produce those bad smells. You can see this bacteria as"white stuff" on the top of the tongue, especially in the back of the tongue. As you know, gum and mints will cover up bad breath for a short time but they do not cure bad breath because they do nothing about the bacteria. To cure bad breath you must clean the tongue along with brushing and flossing. I use OraBrush tongue cleaner. It is both a brush and a scraper and is designed to clean the back of the tongue, where a toothbrush will not go (gaging). My breath stays kissing sweet for up to 12 hours. I have been using OraBrush for about 5 months with great success.

Gargle a cup of lukewarm water mixed with salt or half a lemon juice. This is best done before going to bed. Chew parsley leaves, which are sure to keep your breath fresh. Put a few drops of tea tree oil on your toothbrush top it with toothpaste, and then brush your teeth and don't swallow. More useful remedies at http://useinfo5.blogspot.com/

Drinking a lot of water helps for bad breath if the Gum and Brushing alone aren't helping. Also Listerine will help too. If you're worried about harming your teeth with all that gum you should chew Sugar-Free gum, it doesn't taste much different. You're right with the Garlic, but there's not getting rid of Garlic from your breath. Onions are bad too, but a peice of gum should mask that. Pretty much Garlic is the only stinky food that Gum won't fix because Garlic gets into your blood system and the smell is actually omitted from your pores and lungs. In other words Garlic lasts about 18-24 hours and you're S.O.L till that time is up.
Also, it's not rude to inform someone of their breath, they should appreciate the nice gesture before they go around breathing on people and embarrassing themselves all day.

I floss my teeth with a Gripit Floss Holder – http://www.gripit.biz – to keep bad breath at bay. Gripits also permit me to scrape my tongue with the floss held tightly between the two prongs of the device.
